I’m the most popular breed in America—but more for my appearance than my athleticism. If you prefer high-energy pets, look elsewhere. I’m quiet, sweet, and love purring in someone’s lap. I also enjoy playing gently with children. My affections aren’t for everyone, though—I’m quite choosy and have no problem regally lounging on a chair so people can admire my beauty. A mellow environment is my preference.
My coat is long and thick all over, can be silky or cottony, and comes in an endless array of colors and patterns. I’m definitely high maintenance, and I shed a lot! Comb me daily to avoid tangles and mats. Beneath all that hair, I weigh 8 to 12 pounds.
I am prone to various health issues including kidney disease, bladder problems, liver problems, retinal atrophy, and heart disease. I’m also very sensitive to heat. With proper care I’ll be glamming up the house for 10 to 15 years.
