Cairn Terrier

If I look familiar, you might have seen me traipsing down the Yellow Brick Road on my way to Oz. Plucky and spirited, I was born for adventure. Like any terrier I’m curious and stubborn, but love to please my owners and can be quite sensitive. I’m fairly affectionate although less accepting of strangers. I like to play and can hold my own with rambunctious children.

A devoted friend, I prefer not to be left alone for long periods, but I do adapt well to apartment living. I’m curious and a fast learner, yet I can be stubborn. Be certain to let me know that you’re the boss. A moderate walk or a fun game in the yard each day will meet my exercise needs. I do love to chase small animals and dig. Barking can also be an issue—and I’ll let you know when someone is approaching.

I’m a bundle of joy and energy in a small package, standing 9 to 10 inches tall and weighing about 13 or 14 pounds. My wiry coat is weather-resistant and low maintenance, requiring only once-a-week brushing, a bath every few months, and stripping of dead hairs twice a year. My coloring can be red, black, sand, gray, or brindle.

With love and care I’ll be a cheerful member of your family for 12 to 15 years. I have no health problems other than a slight risk for globoid cell leukodystrophy. Legg-Perthes, patellar luxation, and vWD can also occur but with low frequency.
