Doberman Pinscher

Families looking for a trusted guardian cannot go wrong by welcoming me into their home. Lean and muscular with a dignified stance, I’m a loyal and adventurous companion. My past aggressive temperament has been softened, although some can be domineering. I’m affectionate with family and good with children, though reserved with strangers.

Yet I’m not a breed for everyone. I have high energy and intelligence, and I need firm handling. I keep a “puppy” attitude for a few years and can test your patience, though I’m not stubborn and can be sensitive to criticism. I do have a tendency to bark.

Daily exercise and mental challenges will keep me from becoming frustrated and destructive. A long leash walk or strenuous run each day is sufficient. I like to be kept busy and am always up for family fun, but note that I’m not tolerant of cold weather.

I have size to match my energy level, at 65 to 90 pounds and 24 to 28 inches in height. I’m a clean dog with a sleek, smooth coat that needs only weekly brushing with a mitt or rubber curry. Bathing is not a priority for me. My coloring may be black, red, blue, or fawn with rust markings.

With good care, I’ll be a loyal family member for 10 to 12 years. Primary issues of health concern are CVI (wobbler’s syndrome) and cardiomyopathy. Less common concerns include osteosarcoma, demodicosis (skin mites), narcolepsy, gastric bloat, hip dysplasia, and vWD.
