Other Furry – Chinchilla

If you want a soft and cuddly pet, I’ll meet you halfway. I have the softest fur of any small pet or rodent, and though I don’t always enjoy being held, I will bond with you. I bite when stressed so am not ideal for kids, but I’m a sweet, quirky companion for someone willing to provide special care. My sensitive digestive system requires a lot of fiber from hay and commercial food. Dust baths are necessary to keep my dense fur clean and soft. I’m upset by changes to routine and cannot tolerate heat.

I’m very active and curious, and I love to climb. My cage should have multiple levels and be filled with fun toys and objects to gnaw. I explore by biting objects and am a good jumper, so keep indoor spaces safe from possible risks and destruction.

On average I’m 10 to 14 inches in length with a 6-inch furry tail, and I weigh under 2 pounds. I do require more of a commitment than other small pets, with a life span of about 15 to 18 years.
