Looking for “the world’s biggest lapdog”? I might be just the dog for you. My size is matched only by my elegant and noble bearing. I’m one of the “giant” dog breeds, standing at up to 32 inches at the shoulder and weighing in anywhere from 100 to 200 pounds. But don’t be fooled by my size—I’m a gentle giant, affectionate and great with kids and other pets. I am loyal, courageous, and patient. I am not a heavy barker or aggressive but will be protective when the situation calls for it. I’m also generally pretty obedient, but training early on is a must due to my size.
Despite what you might think, I don’t need a ton of exercise—though daily walks are necessary to keep my tail wagging. Grooming a dog like me is a snap, too. Though I do need my nails trimmed, I don’t require trips to the groomer to maintain my lustrous coat, which comes in 9 standard colors (fawn, brindle, black, black and white, blue, harlequin, mantle, merle, and white). My ears are naturally floppy and my tail is long, though sometimes my “showier” relatives may have cropped ears and docked tails.
On average, I live less than 10 years, though I can sometimes make it as long as 12 or 13. I am prone to hip dysplasia, gastric torsion (bloat), and heart problems. You can keep me healthy by providing a good diet and a well-padded, soft bed for me to stretch my significant weight out on.
