Whether clipped to an ornate profile or left to more natural curls, I always carry myself with dignity. Beneath my sometimes frilly haircuts, I’m a very intelligent dog who is easy to train and loves to play. I’m affectionate with family and generally friendly to all. Showy but not snobby, I can be a goofball.

I’m a very good for new dog owners in a city apartment, though I have a strong tendency to bark and hate being left alone. Daily walks, games, and training sessions will keep my body and mind exercised. Resist the urge to hand out treats, as I can become overweight.

Poodles are categorized into three sizes. Toys are less than 10 inches tall and weigh 4 to 8 pounds, miniatures are 10 to 15 inches tall and 12 to 18 pounds, and standard poodles are 15 to 21 inches and 45 to 65 pounds. My curly, wiry coat doesn’t shed and is well tolerated by people with allergies. I do require regular grooming—bath, brush, and trim—every 3 to 6 weeks, regardless of styling. Wipe my face with a cloth every day to avoid eye stains. Coat colors may be white, black, blue, gray, silver, brown, apricot, or cream.

Poodles can be affected by a number of health issues, which vary based on size. Some major concerns are hormonal disorders, epilepsy, hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, kneecap luxation, and eye and skin problems. With good diet and regular checkups, I’ll be a lively family companion for 10 to 15 years.
