Treeing Walker Coonhound

Some people might mistake me for a beagle as a pup, but then I’ll just keep growing! I’m 45 to 80 pounds of athletic muscle and stand 22 to 27 inches tall. Hunters value my ability to quickly track and tree raccoons with bravery and stamina. Off the field I’m affectionate with family and very good with kids. I’m more reserved with other dogs and may become protective. I’m generally well mannered but will bay loudly and drool like a typical hound.

You could say I work hard and rest hard. Given a soft bed I’ll nest and not want to leave. However, I do need plenty of exercise if not hunting. A long, brisk walk and lively game will keep my body and mind limber and avoid boredom in the house. I’m bright, crafty, and a bit quirky; training will require some imagination and focus as I test your limits. I can jump fences easily and quickly wander miles away, so keep the yard well secured. Apartment life and new dog owners aren’t a good match for me.

My coat is smooth, shiny, and easy to care for. Weekly brushing and occasional baths will keep me in top form. Do check my ears for possible signs of infection. My coloring may be white with black spots and tan markings, or black with white markings and tan saddle.

I’m a good, loving dog who’ll be a trusted partner on the hunt or the sofa for 12 to 13 years. Hip dysplasia is be a potential health problem.
