Other Furry – Hamster
Need a pal to watch the late-night double feature with you? I’m a nocturnal animal who’s awake at night but sleeps all day, so despite being adorably cute, I’m not the best pet for young children—in fact, I might bite if awakened. I’m generally social with people, but get territorial and aggressive with cousins. If you want more than one hamster, we’ll need separate homes.
I’m very active and love to burrow, so provide plenty of toys, perches, tubes, and deep bedding. A bigger cage is better to satisfy my inquisitive nature! I’m a clean, self-grooming pet who enjoys commercial food and fresh veggies.
Among the various hamster breeds, the most common pet is the Syrian, which is 5 to 7 inches long and weighs about 4 ounces. My coat can be a number of colors and patterns, and I have a short tail and puffy cheeks. With proper care, I’ll be your nighttime companion for about 2 to 3 years.
